Dear Friends and Members of MAWAI,

On the 13 of November 2011 the Annual General Meeting was held in the hope that a new committee would be established to continue the operation of MAWAI. Unfortunately this did not occur.

Is with great sadness that I need to inform you all that MAWAI is no longer operating and does not exist as an organisation.

Any funds that are left in the account after they are finalised legally will be sent to Mission Mexico in Tapachula.

If you are a current member and would like a refund of your membership please let me know before 14 February 2012, so I can arrange a refund.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all those people that have supported me during my long stay with MAWAI especially my family for their passion for Mexican Culture and their patience and support. I have been able to achieve many wonderful things for the Mexican Community and for Charity during my time with MAWAI; I have truly enjoyed the friendships that I have made and promoting Mexican Culture. I am forever proud to be Mejicana.

Dear Friends and members of MAWAI,

After many discussions on what to do regarding the Independence Celebration for 2011, MAWAI has made the hard decision to cancel the event, due to the lack of interest we have received. The decision was not an easy one to make. As you may appreciate it takes a lot of time and effort to organise such an event but without the support of the community the event cannot be possible.

I would like to express my gratitude to all the people that have worked very hard to organise the event and I sincerely apologise to those people who had purchased tickets, thank you for your support, all your money will be refunded to you.

I would also like to give a big thank you to the Mexican Dance Group of Australia for all the support they have given to MAWAI over the years; we are going to miss a great show!!! It was one of the highlights of the Celebration.

The Independence Day Celebration has been organised for the last 36 years in Sydney. It is very disappointing and heartbreaking that this year, for the first time in 36 years that our event will not be possible due to the lack of support from the community. The celebration is a time to celebrate being Mexican, celebrating our culture and our independence, seeing old friends and having a great time with other Mexicans, meeting new Mexicans and getting together as a community.

Let us all remember that our traditions need to be carried on and I hope that whatever we do on the 15 of September that we all remember our beautiful Mexico.

VIVA MEXICO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
